I have to share this with you, this was perfect timing taking this course,  just today I received the annual facility survey from NHSN to complete,  a big focus of it is Antibiotic Stewardship , and I’m happy to say since completing this course, I could confidently answer yes to all the Antibiotic Stewardship  questions.

I have learned so much information from the course that has made an immediate impact on my role. I have always been stickler for handwashing, but it wasn’t until this course that made me really understand the importance of preventing the spread of infections and outbreaks, monitoring infections, and continuous education for myself and staff. This course was the beginning foundation to my role as a IP and preventing the spread of infection.

I believe this course has helped me to understand the Infection Preventalist role, components of an IP program, and the importance of the Antibacterial Stewardship Program. I believe this course gave the foundation to work as an IP and with continued knowledge and experience help me to be successful in this role.

This course has empowered and reminded/educated me on the importance of infection control.  As a DON, many days I feel like I am running around like a chicken with my head cut off so to speak.  My mind is everywhere as I attempt to run the building and issues that arise each day.  This course reminded me not only of the basics and how important infection control is but also to follow through and drill down to determine the real issues and incorporate plans to prevent these issues from reoccurring.

Today we had an outbreak in our facility.  I utilized the information learned into my plan.  I jumped in and immediately started working.  To be honest, I impressed myself.  When I called my RNC, I had already completed every task she mentioned.  Thank you for all you have taught me.  This has truly been a very valuable learning. Experience.

Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC- 22) Mastery Program

I think this course allowed me to work more on my Critical Thinking and Communication skills. These are two very important areas that an IP needs to be strong in- in order to get the work done. I would need to be able to communicate well to others the importance of infection control and when to carry out certain tasks in order to maintain infection prevention. This is a new role for me; therefore, I know that I would face challenges learning the job at the same time as carrying out the duties required.

The course was captivating it covered a lot of material in a short period.  I was able to increase my knowledge of infection and realize that it encompasses a lot more than I thought in general.  I pay more attention to the little things that I thought didn’t matter.

Would you recommend this course to others? I would definitely recommend this course to others regardless of whether they are a practicing Infection Preventionist or not. There is so much to learn, and it expands your knowledge immensely.

This course impacted my position as the Director of Nursing at my facility by giving me the information and resources to better teach the other employees and families about the importance of infection control and the impact it has on everyone in the facility and the community.

This course has given me tools I need to correct issues that are current within my facility and other tools to help obtain and maintain compliance with CMS regulations.  I have a much better understanding of what to be observant for within the facility.  I had limited experience with infection control prior while working for health department-(would respond to outbreaks- usually noro virus) and now I have more education and knowledge in my arsenal to help prevent infections from beginning.

Each course identified specific items/subjects that were going to be covered.  During those courses/modules the identified information was discussed, along with causative factors, interventions, and possible implications (f-tags) of not correcting or following accepted pathways or standards of care to prevent and treat infection issues.

Would you recommend this course to others? Yes, and I already have recommended it to several nurses that are interested in learning about infection control and prevention.

This course has helped me to better understand all the components that are involved in the Infection Preventionist Role, from the nursing aspects as well as the facility involvement. It has given me the opportunity to have access to new resources that I was previously unaware of and had no idea how to access them that will be a great help in educational opportunities for staff, clinicians and families.

Yes, it helps to prepare a nurse to begin an infection Preventionist program and gave good guidelines and examples of how a program should run and look.

It gave me a better understanding of the Infection Prevention and Control process and better tools to work with in assisting the Infection Preventionist in my communities.  I am a Regional DON and assist the DON’s in 6 communities.  I feel I will be better prepared to answer questions that them may have.  The Infection Preventionist positions are going to very important and we have yet to see how it will impact our surveys.    I definitely have a better understand of Infection Prevention and Control than I did before.  I don’t know that I am a “master” at it, but I do have more knowledge on the subject and knowledge is power.

Would you recommend this course to others? Yes and no.  If you want a more detailed and better understanding of the subject, this would be the best course to take.  If you want the quick and easy way, there are courses now that are free and take less time.

I have learned so much from the courses, reinforcing what we have been doing right, but more important are those areas where we have not been monitoring at all. I have learned how important the IP role is and how much it must coordinate with other departments (Environmental and Maintenance in particular) where nursing has been rather separated from these depts. in the past. Training and documentation of that training for all departments will be a huge undertaking as I am aware of how surveyors have increased their focus not only on following the regulation but also are you teaching your staff.

surprising.  I feel that every module built on the one before to development of a complete IPAC plan. Reviewing standards of practice in infection control, PPE, isolation, safe antibiotic use, outbreak management, the risk assessment tool, the staff observation tools all are going to be utilized in developing our comprehensive programs. I feel we have a great deal of work ahead of us in order to document all that we need to meet this regulation.

Would you recommend this course to others? We made it our expectation as the nursing leadership of our corporation that this would be completed by our QA nurses in each community prior to the regulation going into effect. As the team with the VP of nursing and the regional DONs, we are committed to each community meeting the regulation and the QA nurses to have an understanding of the expectations of the new infection prevention and control regulation. We expect and will support the QA nurses developing monitors and education plans utilizing the CDC and other resource materials provided in these courses. Utilizing the tools already identified will assure all components are being addressed.

So, the short answer is yes, we absolutely HAVE recommended this course to each QA nurse, not only that we made it a requirement not a suggestion. In addition, some of my AL directors who do not have QA nurses have expressed an interest in doing the course as well, which will make them more aware and prepared.

This has given me a deeper understanding of how the infection preventionist should operate in the facility. I felt like I learned a lot about what was expected of me in the future and what I needed to know to be successful in my position.

Would you recommend this course to others? Yes I would. It was very easy to follow and the teacher was very helpful.

This course positively impacted my role as IP at a CCRC.  Some of the information was a review while other information was new to me.  I discovered areas in our infection control and antibiotic stewardship program that require some improvement.  The assignments were helpful and I plan to use several of my assignments to update some items in our infection control program and in particular updating some of our infection policy and procedures.  I came to realize that our PPE policy and procedure needs to be more specific about who is restocking, how often, etc.

It was helpful that each week’s overview had its own objectives as well as each section that week. The weekly objectives helped to preface the content each week.  The weekly content consistently followed the objectives.

Would you recommend this course to others? I would highly recommend this course to others.  I have also completed the APIC Infection Control training course.  I found the NADONA course very helpful and I learned many new things that will help to further improve the infection control program at our CCRC.  Our infection control and antibiotic stewardship program has had much success over the past year but I am looking forward to using this course to further expand on our success.  This course was a lot of work but very valuable and time well spent.  The 15-week time frame also allowed participants to work at their own pace which I found helpful.

This course has confirmed how important infection prevention and gives me an increase in knowledge, skill and attitude to move forward with evidence based practices in our organization.

This course definitely meets the objectives of each course. Cindy did a great job in the webinars and had no trouble understanding each session. The handouts and extra webinars or articles were correlated with what Cindy was teaching with each session.

I believe this course has greatly impacted my role and position. Staff in all departments have been very receptive and willing to learn and comply with all the topics and areas of infection prevention that I have reviewed and implemented.  There are so many areas of this program that affect every department in my facility. I have improved the antibiotic stewardship program.

I have a better understanding of the environmental services procedures and have been involved in observing and teaching the staff in this department as well as every department in the facility. The one area that stands out is the audit I did on the terminal cleaning of a room where I use the Glow Germ to demonstrate the effectiveness of the cleaning technique that was used to clean a room. The Environmental services manager has agreed that we will do this audit periodically.

Since taking this course I feel more confident in my knowledge and eagerly share what I learn from each module with others.  Each week met their objectives by providing us with pertinent information to help better understand the topic.  The objectives listed clearly what was expected of us and content showed us how.

Wow this course has opened my eyes!!!!! I have come to realize the role of IP is bigger than I thought, and so too what others think.  Part of my role is now educating the team at my facility on the expanse of the role of IP; and the critical importance of infection prevention, in addition to, or more so than infection control, as a program.
